The project
The City of Costa Mesa is now home to the new Norma Hertzog Community Center and Lions Park Playground (Airplane Park), a world-class campus that has quickly become the crown jewel of Costa Mesa’s Westside neighborhood.
New green spaces, modern playground equipment, rubberized surfaces and sand playgrounds are all on offer to residents and visitors alike. Rainwater collectors and irrigation systems have also been improved, and new lighting has been added to punctuate the site.
Our Aiguille lighting masts and Palino mastheads now grace the park. The Palino is a helical groove that makes it easy to mount and adjust spotlights (even on site!). Just the thing for lighting designers.
This beautiful project has won many awards. The Donald Dungan Library and Norma Hertzog Community Center are both LEED Gold certified. The project received the Aia Orange County Award of Merit in the Commercial Built category in 2022, the Engineering News record Award for Best Cutlural/Worship Project in 2021, and the SCDF design Awards in the Civic Project category in 2021.
